Frequently asked questions

How booking, paying, cancelling and getting paid actually work. If what you need is not here, ask us — we would rather answer than have you guess.

Booking an event

Does it cost anything to book through Simplicity Events?

Browsing, enquiring and messaging are free. When you book, a 3.5% platform service fee is added to your total at checkout and itemised before you pay, covering secure payment processing, platform maintenance, customer support and Simplicity Secured booking protection. Our commission is separate and comes out of the vendor’s side.

How do I book someone?

Some listings can be booked and paid for directly. Others start with an enquiry, because the price depends on your date, guest count or location. In that case you send the details, the vendor comes back with a quote, and you pay only once you have accepted it.

When am I charged?

At the point you confirm the booking, not on the day of the event. Your payment is held rather than passed straight to the vendor, and it is released to them a short while after the event has taken place.

Can I cancel, and do I get my money back?

Yes, and how much you get back depends on the cancellation tier the vendor chose and how much notice you give. There are three tiers and they are set by us, not written by vendors, so you always know which rules are in play. The full detail is on the cancellation and refund policy page.

What if the vendor cancels on me?

You are refunded in full, whatever tier the listing carried and however close to the date it happens. The tiers only govern cancellations by you.

Something went wrong on the day. What now?

Tell us as soon as you can, and ideally before the funds are released to the vendor, because at that point there is still money to put right a dispute from. Contact us with your order number and what happened.

How do I contact a vendor before booking?

Use the enquiry form on their listing. Conversations stay in your account so there is a record of what was agreed, which matters if a booking is later disputed.

Selling your services

What does it cost to sell here?

Nothing up front. No listing fee to start. We take a single commission on completed bookings and nothing on bookings that never happen. The current rates are set out in how it works.

How do I get paid?

You connect your own Stripe account during onboarding and payouts go there directly. Simplicity Events never holds your bank details. Our commission is deducted before the payout reaches you, so there is no invoice to settle later.

Why is there a delay before I am paid?

Funds are held until after the event has taken place. That hold is what makes the marketplace trustworthy to buyers, and it protects you too: it is the reason a buyer disputing a booking gets refunded from held funds rather than clawing money back from you afterwards.

What do I need before I can take bookings?

A completed profile, at least one published listing, and a verified Stripe connected account. Stripe runs its own identity and business checks as part of that; until they pass, your listings cannot take payment.

Can I write my own cancellation terms?

No. You pick one of three tiers we define, per listing. Buyers can then compare listings on the same terms rather than reading a different contract every time, and we can enforce refunds automatically instead of arbitrating case by case.

What happens if I need to cancel a booking I accepted?

The buyer is refunded in full. Do it as early as you can and tell them directly through the platform. Repeatedly cancelling accepted bookings puts your account at risk of suspension.

Can I list more than one service?

Yes, as many as you genuinely offer. Each gets its own price, availability and cancellation tier.
